Liberty Science Center: 2007 Expansion and Renewal

Jersey City, NJ

When the Liberty Science Center re-invented itself in 2006 with a new facility and an entirely reimagined series of galleries, the directors chose Chedd-Angier-Lewis to produce over 35 permanent multimedia exhibits across four topical areas including: Communication, Skyscrapers, Infection Connection, and Our Hudson Home.

Where Did Language Come From
Handprint Wall

‘Where did language come from?’ and Handprint Wall take advantage of custom touch technology to explore the origins of communication. Visitors can play a language-themed board game on an interactive table top surface, or leave a digital imprint of their hand on a cave wall – simulating an ancient human practice.

The Schedule

By sliding an interactive display along a wall-sized timeline installed in the Skyscraper gallery, The Schedule invites visitors to track the progress of a skyscraper’s construction using timelapse footage and detailed video hot spots.

Energy Comparison

Energy Comparison emphasizes the efficiency of intelligently designed buildings and communities by challenging the visitor with a simulated city-building activity.

Airplane travel provides a metaphor for Spreading the Disease, a series of programs examining the circuit of various infectious conditions throughout history – from the Bubonic Plague to SARS.

Hudson Home Narrators explores a range of controversial topics in regional conservation through original, on-location interviews with experts who have opposing viewpoints.
